FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Depending on your presenting complaint, one of our clinicians will triage you over the phone based on what you tell them and put you into the right persons diary. You will be in good hands regardless and Steph or Nick will ensure you get the best treatment for your injury/complaint.
Chiropractic is very hands-on. It literally translates from latin to “to practice by hand”. Chiropractors are renowned for their spinal and nervous system knowledge but can treat most areas of the musculoskeletal system. They are trained for 4 or 5 years at Masters level and can now compliment Physiotherapists via soft tissue treatments as well as their famous spinal adjustments or “clicking joints” to relieve your pain.
Physiotherapists focus on how their patient moves and their muscular and movement imbalances which may predispose people to injuries or dysfunction. They will then rectify these faulty movement patterns/injuries by prescribing exercises to strengthen up weak muscles and stretch tight ones. They also focus on soft tissue treatments to compliment these exercises. The are trained rigorously for 3 to 5 years depending on what level they wish to achieve, whether it be bachelors or masters level respectively.
When the joint is stretched during a chiropractic adjustment, the pocket of air within the joint that may be reducing your joint range of motion and putting pressure on local nerves gets stretched too causing this air pocket to burst and be pushed out of the joint – causing a small popping sound. This is usually painless and can drastically improve spinal movement and reduce pain around the area. Chiropractors use these adjustments along with adjunctive therapies like soft tissue release, massage, stretching, dry-needling and IASTM.
Yes, we take every major credit/debit card including American Express via our IZettle payment system.
Yes, there is free parking at both of our clinic locations. At Sarisbury Green, we have 6 sapces on the clinic driveway and 7 2 hour free slots immediately out the front of the clinic. At West End, as you turn into the clinic and pass between Clarke Mews Estate Agents and New Chapel Car Garage, The Dental Health Practice/Watt Health will be on your right. Just beyond the clinic building there is a blue/grey fenced area – this is the clinic parking. There is also parking along side of the building.
Only at Sarisbury Green, where our clinic has ground floor treatment rooms and disabled parking. At our West End location, the clinic building itself has very easy access for push chairs and wheelchairs via a ramp into reception. However, the clinic room is based upstairs and the building does not currently have a lift/chairlift.
Usually treatment feels like it is working the right area – but it rarely an “ouchy” sort of pain. A certain amount of discomfort may be felt when working on an injured area but this is normal and to be expected. Of course, everyone’s pain thresholds are different – so what someone may perceive as a walk in the park, someone else may find sore. On the whole, the treatment experience is bearable and if you have any concerns during the sessions, or in between sessions, then please do not hesitate to voice them. After sessions it is normal to feel some post-treatment soreness too – like you’ve had a good workout or a little bruised. This is normal and part of the healing process.
Please, if possible, wear flexible clothing such as gym clothes (tracksuit, leggings, shorts, sports tshirt and trainers) particularly for Physiotherapy, Sports Rehab and Pilates sessions. If you have to come straight from work then please pack some appropriate clothing with you for these sessions. For Chiropractic, Massage, Needling, Cupping or Shockwave this isn’t as important but still recommended. We have treatment gowns for these sessions if needed to respect dignity and privacy.
Of course, the more the merrier! In fact, it is sometimes better as some information given to you may have been missed as there is always a lot to take on – so sometimes two pairs of ears are better than one! It is also essential that children under the age of 16 are chaperoned by a parent and appropriate consent is signed and approved.
Yes, children over the age of 10 years old are treated at the clinic. We are aiming at adding Paediatric management for children/infants/babies of all ages, including newborns, in due course. If you need any advice about newborns/infants and where to take them for treatment then please get in touch and we can advise accordingly until we are able to do so.
Yes, you can. Chiropractic, Physiotherapy and Pilates are particularly effective during pregnancy. Pilates is safe up to full term. With Chiropractic and Physiotherapy, treatment is recommended up to 36 weeks. These modalities can really help your muscles and joints during the amazing time that is pregnancy. Also, beyond the birth of child it can help your musculoskeletal system readapt and get back to normal. Steph takes pre and post-natal Pilates sessions, which have been proven to really help your body stay in good shape before and after child birth.
