Marie-Claire has been a Pilates teacher/Yoga teacher and Sports Massage Therapist for over 20 years. She set up the first Pilates studio that Southampton had ever seen in 2004 and began a PhD looking at ‘Exercise Modalities for the Management of Non-Specific, Chronic Lower Back Pain’ in 2009.
In 2010 she began offering professional training in all 3 disciplines, and then moved to larger premises in 2011. In 2012 Marie-Claire spent time working at a studio in Florida alongside teachers training by one of Joseph Pilates’ protegees, Romana Krysonowska; but then an accident in 2014, meant that she too; was now suffering from debilitating, chronic lower back pain. This led to the sale of the business, before entering into her other career passion of working in education.
In 2015 she write her first book ‘Opposition in Pilates and Yoga’ Newton’s Third Law meets Mindfulness. But then the experience of now living with
chronic pain drove Marie-Claire to exploring the research in pain science and attending many courses on the subject, before writing her second book ‘Move Away From Pain’ A Guide to a Pain Free Life. Rehabilitation herself, she was able to return to teaching movement but has stayed in education too and runs the 2 career pathways concurrently.
After completing a further post-graduate qualification in education, she also works as an apprenticeship assessor for teaching assistants and Learning and Skills Teachers. She also operates as a freelance quality advisor for a multitude of fitness training providers across the UK, and as (as she always done) a tutor and assessor for Pilates/Yoga courses and Sports Massage training.
