Chiropractic & Pilates Care During and After Pregnancy

Pregnancy and the postnatal period place significant physical demands on the body.

Hormonal changes, altered posture, weight distribution, and changes in muscle activation can all contribute to pain, discomfort, and movement dysfunction.

A combined chiropractic and Pilates approach provides safe, evidence-based support throughout pregnancy and beyond, helping mothers move comfortably, prepare for birth, and recover confidently after delivery.

Common Musculoskeletal Conditions During Pregnancy

Many women experience musculoskeletal pain during pregnancy due to changing biomechanics and increased load. Common pregnancy-related conditions include:

Lower back pain

Pelvic girdle pain (PGP), including SI joint pain

Hip and groin pain

Mid-back and rib pain

Neck and shoulder tension

Postural fatigue and muscle overload

Sciatic-type pain related to pelvic and lumbar changes

Early assessment and appropriate care can significantly reduce discomfort and improve function throughout pregnancy.

Antenatal Pilates plays a crucial role in managing pregnancy-related pain and preparing the body for labour and delivery.

Antenatal Pilates focuses on:

Core and pelvic stability

Breathing and pressure management

Postural control

Hip and pelvic mobility

Strengthening muscles that support the spine and pelvis

Reducing strain on the lower back and pelvic joints

Pilates during pregnancy is individually tailored, safe, and adaptable to each trimester.

How Chiropractic Care Can Help During Pregnancy

Pregnancy-specific chiropractic care focuses on optimising spinal, pelvic, and joint function while accommodating the physiological changes of pregnancy. Treatment is gentle, tailored, and always adapted to each stage of pregnancy.

Benefits may include:

Reduced back, pelvic, and hip pain

Improved pelvic alignment and mobility

Reduced muscle tension and joint restriction

Improved posture and comfort

Support for optimal movement patterns as the body changes

All care is delivered following thorough assessment, screening, and informed consent.

The Webster Technique – Pregnancy-Specific Chiropractic Care

Dr Ellie Bullman is Webster Technique Certified, a specialised chiropractic approach used during pregnancy.

What Is the Webster Technique?

The Webster Technique is a gentle, pregnancy-specific assessment and treatment approach that focuses on reducing tension and dysfunction in the pelvis and surrounding soft tissues. Its aim is to support optimal pelvic balance and function, which may help improve maternal comfort and movement throughout pregnancy.

It is not a forceful technique and does not involve direct treatment of the baby. Instead, it focuses on the mother’s musculoskeletal system to support natural physiological processes

Postnatal Recovery: Chiropractic & Pilates for Mother

After birth, the body undergoes another significant period of change and recovery. Postnatal care focuses on restoring strength, alignment, and confidence in movement.

Common Postnatal Conditions We Help With:

Lower back and pelvic pain

Pelvic girdle pain persisting after delivery

Neck and shoulder pain from feeding and carrying

Core weakness and reduced stability

Postural strain

Recovery following caesarean or vaginal delivery

Postnatal Pilates, integrated with chiropractic care, helps rebuild strength, restore pelvic and spinal control, and support a safe return to exercise and daily activities.

Chiropractic Care for Babies, Infants & Children

Birth can place stress on a baby’s musculoskeletal system, particularly following prolonged labour, assisted delivery, or caesarean section.

Chiropractic assessment for babies is gentle and age-appropriate, focusing on movement, comfort, and function.

Common Infant Presentations We Assess:

Feeding difficulties or preference to one side

Torticollis (head turning preference)

Irritability related to movement or positioning

Asymmetrical movement patterns

Care is always gentle, non-forceful, and tailored to the infant’s developmental stage.

OUR PREGNANCY & BEYOND CLASSES

We also offer Mummy & Baby Yoga and Pilates classes, designed to support postnatal recovery while gently incorporating your baby into movement and bonding time.

These small-group classes can help improve core strength, posture, flexibility, and pelvic stability, while supporting relaxation, confidence, and connection during the postnatal period.

Indications include postnatal back or pelvic pain, recovery after pregnancy and birth, postural strain from feeding and carrying, and a safe return to movement.

Classes take place in our beautiful, purpose-built studio, with a maximum of just six attendees, ensuring personalised attention from an expert, fully certified instructor in a calm, supportive environment.
